Airport Police Officer
Starting Rate of Pay: $25.20 Per Hour
Schedule:
Night Shift 6:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M.

Introduction
The Airport Police Officer will provide security and police services for airport property (including Industrial Park) and maintain traffic control in front of the terminal.
Essential Functions
- While on duty at the airport, an officer has the authority to arrest, with or without a warrant, for the following violations of the criminal laws of the State of Nebraska and the City of Lincoln
- A crime committed in the officer’s presence.
- A felony, when the officer has reason to believe that the suspect has committed it.
- Provide security for passengers and airline personnel during the boarding of aircraft in accordance with FAR’s 107 and 108.
- Inspect air operations areas for FAR Part 139 compliance.
- Respond to non-screening incidents within the airport terminal or other airport locations as directed.
- Appear in court to present evidence and testify against persons violating rules and regulations of the Lincoln Airport Authority.
- Implement applicable procedures as outlined in the Airport Emergency Plan during emergency situations.
- Maintain proper logs, reports and forms to record circumstances in detail surrounding non-routine occurrences affecting airport security, safety or environmental conditions.
- Patrol all airport property, which includes Industrial Park, fence line and buildings.
- Maintain vehicular and pedestrian traffic control in front of the terminal.
- Perform runway and taxiway checks in a vehicle.
- Monitor alarm and CCTV System.
- Periodically perform communication center duties.
- Perform all duties assigned in the operation of the airport and Industrial park.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
- Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Operate radio, computer, and telephone systems efficiently and effectively.
- Speak with clarity, and write and read English fluently.
- Must be able to demonstrate moderate computer skills.
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure during emergency situations.
- Ability to provide outstanding public relations and customer service to airline passengers and all personnel working at the airport.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.
- Meet the standards of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must be a certified Nebraska law enforcement officer.
Safety Requirements
Adherence to standards established in the LAA Employee Handbook, Policy Directives, Airport Rules and Regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures, and all other established safety requirements applicable to the position is required.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed, with appropriate PPE, to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

- Lift and/or move up to 70 lbs. utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques and equipment.
- Safely climb in and out of trucks and up and down stairs and ladders.
- Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk.
- Specific vision abilities are required, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Endure various work environmental factors, including climate extremes such as cold, hot, wet, and/or humid conditions; and moving mechanical parts/equipment.
Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the Lincoln Airport Authority.
Condition of Employment
The employee must meet the essential functions, skills, abilities, etc., listed in this document. The employee must be at least 21 years of age. Successful completion of a pre-employment reference check, criminal history check (required by the Transportation Security Administration), physical assessment, drug screening and MVR (motor vehicle report), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy. Any associated costs for the screenings will be covered by the Lincoln Airport Authority. The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain while employed, a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under normal rates. Also, the employee must be airfield certified within six months of hire.
